Elementary School Updates
As a proud Purple Star District, supporting our military-connected students is something we truly value. On February 20, we were honored to receive the State of Ohio MIC3 & Purple Star School Challenge Coin. In military culture, a Challenge Coin represents belonging and excellence. Receiving this recognition means our district has reached the “Gold Standard” in supporting military-connected students during transitions, deployments, and beyond.
We were grateful to host State MIC3 Commissioner Pete LuPiba, founder of the Purple Star program, to talk about additional ways we can continue to support our military families. Thank you to the families who joined us and special thanks to Ryann Kavali/committee for their efforts organizing our district events supporting the military.
Principal’s Message
Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:
It’s hard to believe we’re already in the third nine weeks! The year is moving quickly. Please continue to keep an eye on your child’s grades in ProgressBook, and don’t ever hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher if you have questions or concerns. Staying connected makes a big difference.
On February 20th, we brought back our Buddy Activity that we started last year. Grade levels paired up and spent time together working on an activity and simply getting to know one another. It was great to walk through the building and see older and younger students connecting. We’re looking forward to doing more of these throughout the year.
The next time you are in the building, take a minute to check out our new Rover Family Night banner. It features our entire elementary staff/students wearing our Rover Family shirts from the fall. This banner really captures the sense of community and positive culture we have at Rootstown Elementary. Special thanks to Jessica Strayer(parent), Allie Ayers, Heather Rader and Deanna Day for assisting with putting this design together!
March will be busy! Right to Read Week is coming up, and our Book Swap will take place March 23–27. The details of our Book Swap came out on February 20th and information about our Right to Read Week will be sent out soon. You’ll also find the April state testing dates for grades 3–5 are in this newsletter so you can mark your calendars.
Lastly, I also want to congratulate Mr. Hindman and Mrs. Lewis, who were recently recognized at a Summit County ESC celebration. Mr. Hindman was selected as Teacher of the Year, and Mrs. Lewis received the Lifetime Teaching Award from Rootstown. Each district nominates educators for this honor, and we are very proud of both of them.
Thank you for your continued support of our schools and for being such an important part of our Rover community!
Sincerely,
Mr. Turner
Principal
