Rootstown Local Schools to Join New Athletic League Beginning 2027–2028

Jan 16, 2026 | District Updates

The Rootstown Local School District is excited to announce that it will join a newly formed athletic league beginning with the 2027-2028 school year. Rootstown will compete alongside seven area school districts: Crestwood, James A. Garfield, Ravenna, Mogadore, Southeast, Waterloo, and Akron Springfield.

Rootstown holds great respect for its fellow member schools and looks forward to renewing longstanding rivalries while establishing new competitive traditions. This league will provide student-athletes with a strong, competitive environment that supports growth, sportsmanship, and excellence.

In addition to athletic benefits, the new league will significantly reduce travel time, allowing students to spend more time at home and in the classroom. Shorter travel distances will also enhance community involvement and increase support at athletic events.

The Rootstown Local School District is proud to be part of this exciting new chapter in interscholastic athletics and looks forward to the opportunities it will bring for students, families, and the community.

Go Rovers!
