Youth + Senior Connections

May 28, 2026 | Middle School News

Gifted 8th graders participated in a year-long multi-generational project, designed to connect students with senior citizens. This gave our 8th graders the opportunity to forge relationships within our community and learn from their new friends’ life stories. Along the way, essential skills for 21st-century learners were fostered, including:

  • Communication: Strengthening both oral and written communication

  • Critical Thinking: Engaging in thoughtful analysis and inquiry

  • Global Knowledge: Expanding awareness of their role in the world

The culminating event for this program entailed the 8th graders giving life story books to the senior citizens they worked with throughout the year. It was rewarding for both students and community members; we are hoping to repeat the program next year.
